Ever Wonder WhyThere's No Blue in The Twilight Movies? Blue October, That Is...

It's something most of us have discussed at one point or another.  Blue October was one of the major influences in Stephenie's writing of the Twilight Sage.  Justin Furestenfeld, lead singer and songwriter of BO, headlined the Breaking Dawn Tour with Stephenie Meyer.  But after 2 movies, still no Blue!  (Disclaimer: I am a HUGE HUGE Blue/Justin fan and my opinion has always been that if BO didn't want to be on the soundtracks, OK BUT if they were overlooked, grrrrrrr, not OK!!)

Justin made a very interesting comment on this subject, in an interview out today with BLAST Magazine
Well now, If Blue October really wanted/wants to be on one or more of the Soundtracks and has, for some reason, not been included, I am so VERY disappointed.  I mean come on, specific songs (cough, HATE ME, cough) inspired specific scenes, so it's not like their music doesn't fit.  Personally, as a Blue October/Justin fan I have my own opinions on this, but I'll blog about them on my own blog later today :-)
Rumors circulated last year that Blue October, who toured with Meyer, would have a song on one of the Twilight soundtracks. But it never came to pass, and the reasons behind it remained a mystery.
“Me and Stephenie Meyer are great friends,” Furstenfeld said. “I hate her camp, but I love her..... First movie comes out, no song. Second movie comes out, no song. Her management was like, ‘Everything we told you was a lie.’”

Stephenie Wanted Blue October

As most of you reading this know I am a little obsessed with Blue October. The fact that they are a part of the world of the Twilight Saga (as one of Stephenie's musical inspirations) makes me amazingly happy. Also most of you would agree that BO's music is probably most associated the feelings and some scenes in New Moon (Hate Me, Into the Ocean). AND Stephenie & Justin Furstenfeld (lead singer & songwriter for BO) toured together talking about the influence of music on her writing!

The thing is Blue is noticeably absent from the New Moon Soundtrack.

I am pleased to find out that Stephenie wanted them there, too. We are not sure if they were asked and declined or not approached at all. LOL Somehow thinking it was Blue's choice not be on the Soundtrack makes me feel all better.

Here's a Q&A from her site...
Hi Stephenie, I know that your writing is inspired a lot by the music you listen to, so my question is how much say did you have in the music that was picked for the movie/soundtrack? Thank you! - Marci P.

Not a ton. I had a short wish list, and I got one wish out of the four, and that's really a lot when you think about it. My answered wish: a Muse song. My wishes that were not granted: a Blue October song, a Marjorie Fair song, and a Motion City Soundtrack song. All of these artists were a big part of the New Moon writing process for me, and I would have liked to see them included, but in the end, the soundtrack is truly amazing, so I don't have any complaints.

Coming Soon to a Store Near You

EW is reporting that Little Brown will be releasing some new Twilight Saga stuff later this year. Of course I am most excited about this little tidbit....

.....the Breaking Dawn Special Edition, on stands Aug. 4, will include a DVD of the Breaking Dawn concert series and interviews with Meyer. Those who pick up the hardcover book can also expect a poster and reproduction of handwritten lyrics for “My Never,” by Blue October’s Justin Furstenfeld.....

I will most certainly be purchasing that!! Justin Furstenfeld is the lead singer of Blue October and is pretty much responsible for the tone and image of the group since he writes about 90% of their songs! He is a very complex, talented man and if you can't tell I'm a little in love with him LOL. Ok just kidding (kind of), but it makes me so happy to have two of my favorite things together, The Twilight Saga & Blue October. I only wish I could have seen the Breaking Dawn Concert live it was very, very different from a Blue October concert.

Also mentioned in the article ...

The Twilight Journals (pictured), out Oct. 13, are packaged in a tin and include “decorative quotes” from each book. For those hoping to buy books tied into New Moon, Little, Brown will release New Moon: The Complete llustrated Movie Companion on Oct. 6 and New Moon trade and mass-market paperback tie-ins in September and November, respectively. They will also publish a New Moon Collector’s Edition on Oct. 6.

Some Stuff To Talk About.....

There's a while bunch of stuff to 'talk' about today, so...

Becky & I went to see Blue October in concert last week. Since Stephenie cites them as one of her inspirations AND since they are on almost any playlist that exists for the Twilight Saga AND since Justin did the Breaking Dawn Concert tour...I guess I am justified in talking about it here :-) We worked hard to get up front and boy did it pay off - Front Row! OK really I was the one who was totally obsessed with being in the front row, ever since the day we decided to go to the concert I was set on being right up front. I kinda drove my sister nuts about it. Anyway it was an AMAZING show, I would go to see them again in a heartbeat. We were thrilled to hear some of their old songs as well as all the new ones, including Into the Ocean, Hate Me, My Never and Blue Skies from the Stephenie's playlists and/or the Breaking Dawn Concert. There is really no other words except for AMAZING. (On a side note I was also totally obsessed with meeting the band, which we also did after waiting for hours in the street in Philadelphia LOL) I am including a picture of Justin autographing my ticket.

Another little bit of Twilight Saga controversy began brewing this past weekend. Eclipse Director, David Slade's Twitter account has apparently been deleted. Why is this news? Supposedly he had made a negative "tweet" about Twilight. According to slashfilm it went something like this..... “Twilight drunk? No, not even drunk. Twilight on acid? No, not even on acid? Twilight at gun point? Just shoot me.” Now that he has been tapped to direct the third movie in the Twilight Saga, does this bother you? I personally am not bothered by it. I know I have made a few jokes about the Twilight movie too and yet I still love it and would certainly accept a job working on Eclipse if offered (LOL) Ok, that'll never happen but you know what I mean.

MTV has announced the finalists for it's Movie Awards. Twilight leads the way with 7 nominations. Make sure you go vote here!

Paramore is campaigning for Twilight in the MTV Movie Awards. Not only would they like to win for best song with Decode, but they want you to vote for Twilight for best kiss. Hayley had this to say.....“Like, even outside of ‘Twilight,’ there’s probably a million other stories that are very popular that have everything to do with forbidden love,” she continued. “And that’s the essence of ‘Twilight.’ And that’s why I think it’s so popular. There’s a little twist there — he lives forever — but that kiss rules.”

I think that's all for now, however I haven't looked around the internet lately so who knows what else will pop up. :-)
