BREAKING DAWN Release Date

A few reports have surfaced this morning saying that Summit has revealed an official release date for BREAKING DAWN..... November 18, 2011.   This makes sense and falls in with the TWILIGHT and NEW MOON release dates.

This means two things to me 1)  Only one release date, means only one movie - if this is true, it  makes me happy  2) We have to wait a year and a half after ECLIPSE - this makes me sad, but also kind of happy since they will have time to work on it and really do it right :-)


Note:  So The release date is official from Summit.  And many are still specualting that there will be 2 movies and are citing "inside sources".  We'll have to wait and see.

Breaking Dawn To Be Filmed as TWO Movies. Confirmed? Maybe.

UPDATE: Word is Summit is saying that nothing is official yet. :-)

It doesn't look like Summit has given an official confirmation but it is being reported by HisGoldenEyes (and other sites as well) citing Nikki Finke - Deadline Hollywood as their source.

“I have this from several sources, and it’s definitive. Filming on the back-to-back movies would begin in mid-October, and Summit Entertainment is looking at “high-end” directors. Breaking Dawn is the longest in Stephenie Meyer’s 4-book series lengthwise and it’s the most graphic — presenting birth, attempted murder, death, and of course vampire bites. Published on August 2, 2008, it has a happy ending for most of the characters. Divided into 3 parts, the 1st and 3rd sections are told from the point of view of Bella (Kristen Stewart), and the second section from the perspective of Jacob (Taylor Lautner). It prominently features all 3 favorite characters including Edward (Robert Pattinson). Summit Entertainment no doubt will save money by making these Twilight Saga movies #4 and #5 back to back. Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who’s written all the Twilight Saga films) is currently adapting Breaking Dawn. Eclipse, the 3rd movie, will be released on June 30th.”

What do you guys think? I won't lie, I am a little disappointed. I think they will end up dragging it out to fill 2 movies, and although they would have had to cut stuff out to make it one, I think there was a lot that could have been cut.

Lots of Talk About Breaking Dawn

It seems everywhere you look on-line, they are discussing Breaking Dawn and what Summit will do with this book-to-movie. Many people think they should break the book into two movies, while others aren't so sure (I, btw am one of those NOT sold on two movies). Whichever side you are on, one thing we can all agree on is that it SHOULD and WILL be made into a movie. Reports are popping up all over claiming that Summit wants to make it into two movies to a) capitalize on the financial success of the saga and b) be able to keep true to the very lengthy book (754 pages).

Big Questions Surround the Final 'Twilight' Film

Independent film studio Summit Entertainment has got quite a gem on their hands, and its name is the "Twilight" series.

The first movie quickly became a blockbuster box-office hit in 2008 despite early concerns that the book series' rabid fan following wouldn't translate to ticket sales. The second, "New Moon," has grossed over $481 million worldwide since its premiere on November 20. The third installment of the franchise, "Eclipse," wrapped up shooting back in October and is slated to release June 2010.

With the enormous success of the franchise so far, Summit is already working to adapt Stephenie Meyer's fourth and final book in the series, "Breaking Dawn," into a movie. Currently, the studio is deciding whether or not it's best to split the 754-page book into two pictures, along the same lines as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

According to Variety, a two-parter is the path Summit is pursuing for "Breaking Dawn," with hopes that "New Moon" director Chris Weitz will return to helm both pictures. If the two-film route does come to fruition, Summit would have to negotiate new deals with the main cast -- Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner -- since they are only under contract for four features.

But there's a bigger issue to worry about here: How will they transfer the complex and graphic storylines in "Breaking Dawn" to the big screen? With even the biggest "Twilight" fans split on whether they love or hate the book, there's no question that its content will pose a handful of problems for a movie adaptation.

"Breaking Dawn" contains -- SPOILER ALERT! -- huge sections addressing
the complications of vampire/human sex, an unconventional pregnancy, and the
gory birth of a half-vampire, half-human baby. On top of that, there's a chunk in the middle of the book where Jacob takes over narration duty from Bella, leading up to him "imprinting" on the newborn child (translation: The teenaged werewolf falls in love with an infant).

Nowadays, nothing is impossible with a bit of movie-making magic. From
a sparkly vampire to a boy who transforms into a wolf the size of a horse, computer-generated effects can work wonders. But just because it can be done
doesn't mean it will live up to expectations. Stephenie Meyer has even expressed her worries on her official site: "The one thing that I've never seen is a CGI human being who truly looks real. An actress can't play Renesmee [the half-vampire baby], at least not when she's a few days old... She would have to be a construct, and CGI isn't quite there yet."

Special effects aside, the mature and explicit nature of "Breaking Dawn" will be a challenge for the studio to keep at a PG-13 rating. They'd have to leave out a lot of the material or figure out a way to tone it down. But in doing so, they run the risk of upsetting fans. On the flip side, if the film version requires an R rating, parents may be wary of sending their teen girls to the movies. Tough call.

Breaking Dawn, Summit Entertainment released this statement. Nothing else is
official yet!

“Summit Entertainment looks forward to bringing “Breaking Dawn”
to the big screen but at this point any additional information is premature.”

New Moon Kicks Some Serious Opening Weekend Butt

Reports are all over the place that New Moon broke records and exceeded expectations for opening weekend. With numbers like this, can the announcement of Breaking Dawn be too far off? From MTV.com...

On Friday alone, "New Moon" managed to earn $72.7 million, surpassing "The
Dark Knight" as the single best opening day in cinema history. A hefty $26.3
million chunk of that Friday change came purely from midnight showings,
propelling "New Moon" past "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" with the highest-grossing midnight opening of all time. "New Moon" also debuted with the biggest November opening ever and the third-best opening weekend of all time, taking that distinction away from "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

To put the success of "New Moon" in perspective, the first "Twilight"
film — which opened almost a year ago to the day — earned only $69.6 million in
its debut weekend, demonstrating just how widespread the "Twilight" craze has
become in only 12 months.

New Moon Trailer in HD: Meet Jacob Black

Here it is all legal and everything. This was released by Summit today, titled Meet Jacob Black and with a synopsis.

NEW MOON TRAILER

By now we all know that the new New Moon Theatrical Trailer will be shown before Summit's BandSlam which opens this weekend. BUT Summit has just announced that a 10 second preview will be released this Wednesday, August 12.

UPDATE: According to HisGolden Eyes Summit will be releasing 14 seconds of the trailer tomorrow (Tuesday) morning.

TEEN'S CHOICE AWARDS

The Teen's Choice Awards were held last night and Twilight fared pretty well. There were quite a few Twilight stars in attendance, including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, and Nikki Reed. The show will be aired tonight at 8:00 pm on Fox. I will be adding a post in a few minutes with some pictures from the Red Carpet and a video or two from after the awards.

ECLIPSE REHEARSALS / FILMING

By all accounts the cast of Eclipse have head (will be heading) back up to Vancouver today for rehearsals and to begin filming Eclipse. Many of the vampires have already spent time over the past few weeks in Vancouver for fight training. I am looking forward to hearing about Eclipse, it is probably my favorite of the Twilight Books. One of the scenes I am most excited to see is the tent scene which Taylor keeps talking about. I assume that means it must be well written in the script, which he surely must have read by now :-)

Rob Mixes it up with a NYC Taxi?

A lot of reports came out yesterday that Rob was hit by a taxi in New York City. Some said he was trying to escape crazed fans, others that he was just being hurried to his trailer among the crowd of fans after filming scenes for his new Summit movie, Remember Me.

According to the Twilight Lexicon Summit has given an official statement....

“Rob Pattinson is fine, the reports are exaggerated and it was not caused by fans. Production continues ,” according to a Summit spokesperson.

Woman finds 'Twilight' sequel script in trash

The Associated Press is reporting the following. Why can't anything like this ever happen to me??

ST. LOUIS - A St. Louis beauty salon owner accidentally happened upon one of the hottest Hollywood scripts -- the pages from an upcoming "Twilight" sequel -- in a trash bin.

Casey Ray found two scripts, one for the vampire sequel "New Moon," and one for a different movie titled "Memoirs." She decided to return them to the studio making the films. In return, she was invited to attend the movies' premieres, her lawyer said.

Ray recently was waiting for her fiance to finish work when she spotted two scripts in a trash container. She was outside a hotel where actors were staying during a St. Louis shoot for the upcoming George Clooney movie, "Up in the Air."

It's not clear how the scripts wound up in the bin.

The Clooney movie includes actress Anna Kendrick, who is also in the "Twilight" vampire movie. A spokeswoman for Kendrick, Lisa Perkins, said the actress wouldn't have left scripts lying around.

When Ray found the scripts, she considered leaking them to a national tabloid but decided against it, said her lawyer, Al Watkins.

"My client didn't really want to get paid," he said, but she was interested in hanging onto the scripts as collector's items.

Watkins helped her return them to Los Angeles-based Summit Entertainment LLC, the studio making the movies. He said the studio invited Ray to premieres for the two films, and will certify the scripts as authentic after the movies are released.

"Summit doesn't comment on any of the deals it does," Summit spokesman Paul Pflug said. But he added, "We thank Ms. Ray for doing the right thing."

The "Twilight" movies are based on the novels of Stephenie Meyer, so many of the plot turns are well known to readers. But keeping the "New Moon" script written by Melissa Rosenberg out of the public eye preserves which elements of the book will be included in the films, Pflug noted.

Last year's original "Twilight" film grossed over $350 million worldwide.
